Rajai is a senior interventional cardiologist working in Sandwell and West Birmingham Hospitals since 1994. He is cardiology Clinical Director for the West Midland’s largest PCI and complex cardiac devices centres.
He has a long track record in medical leadership, education, quality improvement and collaboration across the primary/secondary care interface having chaired the Sandwell Coronary Heart Disease National Service Framework local implementation team for 10 years. Within this he set up an innovative community heart failure service which led to rapid access clinics being established across the country. He also led the development of interventional cardiology services in Birmingham one of the first non-surgical PCI centres in the UK.
As Clinical Director for cardiology Rajai led the Birmingham, Sandwell and Solihull cardiac network covering 1.5 million people. Working across all settings of care the network developed commissioning guidelines, policies and protocols as well as service improvement initiatives.
Her was the cardiology clinical expert for NICE Quality Standards Group for cardiovascular disease prevention and lipid modification and the NICE Clinical Guideline for Lipid Modification (CG181) in 2014.
