David brings extensive experience of children’s services design and quality standards. He is a Paediatrician and former Vice President of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health where he has a central role in developing strategy for Child Health Services in the United Kingdom and a specific interest in the quality of children’s urgent care services.
He was appointed as a Consultant Paediatrician at Poole Hospital in Dorset in 1989 and dually accredited in general paediatrics and neonatology. He has served as the Clinical Director responsible for managing the acute, neonatal and community paediatric services and was instrumental in developing the Special Care Unit into the Neonatal Intensive Unit with full supporting facilities. He was the lead clinician for the rebuild of the paediatric department in 1995.
In 2001 David joined the RCPCH Clinical Directors Special Interest Group becoming Chair of the group two years later. In 2006 he was elected to the post of RCPCH National Workforce Officer where he led the 2007 National Workforce Census and was College lead for developing strategy for the European Working Time Directive.
David is past-vice president of the Royal College of Paediatrics and child health and is currently clinical lead for the College’s Invited Reviews programme. He was the lead author for the RCPCH ” Facing the Future ” and ” Facing the Future Together for Child Health “. These documents have provided a suite of standards for paediatric in-patient and unscheduled care .
